ARTIST STATEMENT REGARDING WALL PIERCINGS & PROTRUSIONS

 

We mat drawings, frame pictures, trim doors and windows with moldings, adding an aesthetic three-dimensionality to these flat items. We often speak about aesthetics of art, never mentioning these mats and frames that protrude out from the wall. With my wall piercings and protrusions, I examine the formal elements of three-dimensionality from the wall surface. The works co-exist with the wall rather than simply sit on the surface. To study this phenomena, I not only create convex objects, [out from the wall], but have created concave objects that enter, or pierce the wall. In one piece I will totally pierce the wall so that it can be viewed from two different rooms! It will create a "peep hole", arousing the curiosity of the viewer to see the other side
